In Brief: Norwest's Sohn Named Wells' Chief Economist

Wells Fargo & Co. last week named Sung Won Sohn chief economist and senior vice president.

Mr. Sohn, a widely quoted economics expert, had been Norwest Corp.'s chief economist for 25 years before the Minneapolis banking company merged with Wells Fargo Nov. 2.

Joseph Wahed, the last chief economist at the pre-merger Wells Fargo, left in 1996 when it dropped its economics department in the wake of its purchase of First Interstate Bancorp.

Mr. Sohn was a senior economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisers before joining Norwest in 1974. He also was a professor at Pennsylvania State University.
