Tech Bytes: Gas Company Taps Princeton for Billing

Princeton Telecom Corp. said it will offer a telephone bill presentment and payment system for Boston Gas Co.

One of several utilities signed by the payment software company, Boston Gas will make use of the same Internet technology that Princeton Telecom uses to present and receive electronic bill payments on behalf of its customers, the billers.

Eventually, consumers will be able to use the World Wide Web to check on their bills and initiate payments.

"We give the customer a lot more control" than conventional direct debit programs frequently offered by utilities, said Larry Greenberg, chief information officer of Princeton Telecom.
