Tech Bytes: RSA Data Upgrades Java-Security Tool Kit

RSA Data Security Inc. announced two product enhancements in an effort to solidify its position in the Java-security market.

The leading data encryption company added SSL-J components and Crypto-J enhancements to its BSAFE tool kits for system developers. With SSL-J 2.0, developers have everything they need for Java-programmed applications using the Secure Sockets Layer version 3 protocol for banking, financial services, and other electronic commerce, RSA said.

BSAFE Crypto-J 2.0, which was formerly JSAFE, added support for Java Crypto Extensions and the Digital Signature Algorithm. It continues to support the SSL and SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) specifications and S/MIME for electronic mail.

Given the growing popularity of Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Java language, "we wanted to be able to offer the same one-stop shopping for standards- based Java security components as we do for C language components," said RSA senior vice president of marketing Scott Schnell.
