Citigroup Names a Travelers Exec To Role Once Held by Weill Protege

Citigroup Inc. said Wednesday that Todd S. Thompson has been named to the newly created post of senior vice president for strategy and business development.

Mr. Thompson, 37, will report to co-chairmen and chief executives John S. Reed and Sanford I. Weill and will take responsibilities once held by Mr. Weill's right-hand man, Jamie Dimon.

Mr. Dimon was fired Nov. 2, and his duties have since been performed by Michael A. Carpenter, who was named co-chief of corporate and investment banking at the time.

Mr. Thompson will "lead strategic planning efforts and review acquisition and divestiture opportunities for Citigroup globally," the company said in a press release.

He had been senior vice president for global development in Travelers Group and reported to Mr. Weill. He filled a similar role at GE Capital Services before joining Travelers this year.
