Short Takes: New Berth for B of A's Ex-Chief Economist

The former chief economist of BankAmerica Corp. will join other recent recruits at a 19-year-old San Francisco investment management firm.

John O. Wilson will come aboard at SDR Capital Management in early January as chairman of its investment policy committee. He retired recently from BankAmerica, which is based in Charlotte, N.C. His successor, Mickey Levy, had been an economist at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities.

SDR has expanded over the last six months, doubling assets under management to almost $200 million, said Arthur C. Rutzen Jr., president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Rutzen joined SDR in May from Pacific Bank, also in San Francisco, where he was group executive vice president for wealth management. Mr. Rutzen has recently hired two other executives-portfolio managers Jim Boucher from Pacific's wealth management group and Scott Holley from Wells Fargo Securities-and a consultant, Wendy Pascin-Jordan, from Montgomery Asset Management.

Before the new staff members and accounts came in, SDR mostly served the clients of its sister companies: Suttle & Co., an accounting firm for the wealthy, and Fotenos & Suttle, a law firm with an estate planning practice for small-business clients. Mr. Boucher and Mr. Holley are working with SDR's longtime portfolio managers, Ward Lindenmayer and John Kerns.
