Tech Bytes: Norwest Joins MSFDC Home Banking Test

Norwest Corp. said it will take part in the MSFDC electronic bill payment pilot.

The $88 billion-asset banking company will participate as both a biller and as a consolidator of bills presented electronically by commercial customers.

"We have been evaluating alternatives and have chosen MSFDC as one of the strategic companies we plan to work with in electronic commerce," said Les Biller, president and chief operating officer of Norwest. Norwest will serve on the advisory board of MSFDC, a joint venture of Microsoft Corp. and First Data Corp. The Minneapolis banking company is also a member of Integrion Financial Network, the home banking consortium of International Business Machines Corp., Visa, and 16 other banks.

"MSFDC has shown a strong commitment to working with banks to help ensure that its technology fits with other banking industry initiatives," added Webb Edwards, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Norwest. "We want to help integrate MSFDC services with these other initiatives."
