In Brief: TCF Buys 76 B of A Supermarket Branches

TCF Financial Corp. said Monday it has completed its purchase of 76 Chicago-area supermarket branches from BankAmerica Corp.

Located in Jewel-Osco grocery stores, the branches expand $9.7 billion- asset TCF Financial's Illinois branch network to 125 offices and make TCF the fourth largest retail bank in the Chicago metropolitan area, TCF executives said.

BankAmerica, based in San Francisco, announced in November it had ended its contract with Jewel-Osco and took a $112 million charge in the third quarter as a result.
