B of A Exec to Lead Fund-Raising for Olympic Athletes

The U.S. Olympic Committee said it has appointed H. Eugene Lockhart, head of retail at BankAmerica Corp., as its Southern California chairman.

Mr. Lockhart is responsible for leading the campaign to raise $2.5 million in support of American Olympic athletes.

"U.S. athletes invest thousands of hours of training," Mr. Lockhart said. "They undergo tremendous personal and financial sacrifice for the chance to represent our nation in the Olympic Games."

Of 197 participating nations, the United States is the only one that does not provide government funding to its Olympic teams, he said. "Our athletes rely on private-sector support," he said.

Before joining BankAmerica, Mr. Lockhart was the chief executive officer of MasterCard International Inc.
