Card Briefs: Total System Merges Two Direct Mail Units

Total System Services Inc. announced the merger of its Mailtek Inc. subsidiary into TSYS Total Solutions Inc., the mailing and marketing services unit formerly known as Lincoln Marketing.

The combination "will increase our direct mail capacity and diversify other products and services," said Clifford B. Mason, president of TSYS Total Solutions. "We are excited about the merger and know that Mailtek's service capabilities will be a definite asset."

Mailtek, which will remain in Atlanta, was founded in 1976 as Software Services Inc., doing contract programming for NCR computers. It diversified into mail services in the late 1970s for its first client, Citizens and Southern National Bank of Atlanta, and by 1982 founder Frank Kibler Jr. turned its attention entirely to the mail business.

Total System bought the renamed Mailtek, which services the Delta Airlines SkyMiles program, in 1992. From a new 72,000-square-foot building in Columbus which includes a growing telemarketing division TSYS Total Solutions will be enhancing the services Mailtek delivers in Atlanta, the company said.
