Capital Briefs: More Chapter 11 Firms Seen Repaying Debts

The number of companies repaying their debts in Chapter 11 has nearly doubled since the early 1980s, the Justice Department said Monday.

The agency found that 27% of companies completed repayment plans from 1989 to 1995. Past studies have found that only 17% of companies completed plans.

The study, funded by Justice's U.S. Trustee Program, also found that companies are spending less time creating and completing repayment plans.

The findings will be published in the February issue of the Bankruptcy Institute Journal.
