Card Briefs: Racom Elects Former Verifone Exec to Board

John A. Hinds, a former top executive of Verifone Inc. and AT&T Corp., has been elected a director of Racom Systems Inc., which specializes in the contactless chip cards that are best suited for high- volume transit and toll applications. Mr. Hinds was executive vice president at Verifone, just one rung below chief executive officer Hatim Tyabji, until July 1996. Before joining Verifone in 1993, he was AT&T's senior vice president- international and president of AT&T International.

He also spent 11 years with General Electric Co. and was president of the Geneva-based ISO-International Organization for Standardization-from 1992 to 1994.

"His knowledge of point of sale products and markets, his leadership in the development and acceptance of ISO standards worldwide, and his extensive management experience reinforce our goal to become the leading supplier of contactless smart card solutions," said Racom president and chief executive officer Richard Horton.
