Short Takes: BankAmerica Hires 2 Charity Group Execs

BankAmerica Corp. hired two lawyers last week to be vice presidents in the charitable management group of its private bank.

Based in Chicago, the group oversees $4 billion of charitable assets for individuals, foundations, and public charities nationwide.

Susan Gilpin and Peggy Abood join 42 others in the unit.

Ms. Gilpin joined the San Francisco-based banking company from the Children's Home & Aid Society of Illinois, where she was director of major and planned gifts. Previously, she had spent 13 years at Northern Trust Corp., also in Chicago, in tax, estate, master trust, and corporate and institutional service areas.

Ms. Abood came to BankAmerica from the University of Chicago Law School's development office, where she was in charge of its annual fund.

The charitable group works within the private bank because many wealthy clients make donations to existing foundations or set up their own foundations and charitable trusts.

BankAmerica is the fifth-largest banking company in the United States, with $260 billion of assets.
