Citizens Financial Names Executive

NEW ENGLAND

Citizens Financial Group, Providence, R.I., has hired Bernard Baum as chief information officer and an executive vice president.

He had held the same titles at Richmond, Va.-based Signet Banking Corp., which First Union Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., bought in November.

At Citizens he succeeded Jack Martin, who retired in November.

Mr. Baum will oversee information services, systems architecture, deposit operations, data processing, management services, operational risk issues, and commercial loan operations.

Before joining Signet he was executive vice president, chief operating officer, and chief information officer of Southeast Switch Inc., Maitland, Fla., which is now Honor Technologies Inc.

Earlier he was chief information officer at Bank South Corp., Atlanta, which NationsBank bought in January 1996. And before joining Bank South he headed global technology resources for Citibank.

Citizens Financial is owned by Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Ireland.
