In Brief: British Private Client Office for State Street

State Street Global Advisors, the investment management unit of Boston- based State Street Corp., this week announced the opening of its first British office catering to private clients.

State Street also announced the appointment of James Palmer as director of sales for trust and investments in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Palmer, who joins State Street from London-based L.C.F. Edmond de Rothschild Fund Management Ltd., will market a range of investment products to high-net-worth investors in the U.K., State Street said. Mr. Palmer will report to Jay Cromarty, the Boston-based managing director of global sales and marketing for trust and investments.

Mr. Palmer will be based in the offices of SSgA United Kingdom Ltd., State Street's U.K. institutional arm.

Other than the new London office, State Street's private client offices are in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Florida, and Connecticut.

SSgA manages $390 billion of assets for both retail and institutional investors around the world.
