In Brief: Mellon Bank Corp. Names 2 Vice Chairmen

Mellon Bank Corp. said Monday it had promoted two company veterans to vice chairman.

Peter Rzasnicki, 54, who heads Mellon's global trust services, and William J. Stallkamp, 58, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Mellon PSFS, the company's Philadelphia bank, had been executive vice presidents.

"Their appointments recognize the importance to the corporation of their respective areas of responsibility," said chairman and CEO Frank V. Cahouet.

Mr. Rzasnicki, who joined Pittsburgh-based Mellon 29 years ago, was instrumental in building some of the company's fee-based businesses. Mr. Stallkamp, a 36-year Mellon veteran, oversees the important Philadelphia and Middle Atlantic banking markets.

The two men join seven other vice chairmen and two senior vice chairman. That number will be reduced somewhat when vice chairman Keith Smith and Mr. Cahouet retire and two other vice chairmen take on new roles at yearend.

Vice chairman Martin G. McGuinn will succeed Mr. Cahouet as chairman and CEO, while Christopher M. "Kip" Condron will become president and chief operating officer.
