Short Takes: Insurer's Bank Unit Sold 21% More During 1997

Jackson National Life Insurance Co.'s bank sales division sold more than $800 million in new annuity and life insurance premiums last year, a 21% increase over 1996, the company said. That helped boost revenues for the Atlanta-based institutional marketing group in 1997 to $8.2 billion, a 26% increase over the previous year.

Jackson National is now among the top-five providers of all annuity products through banks, the company said, quoting data from Kenneth Kehrer Associates, Princeton, N.J.

In other news, Lansing, Mich.-based Jackson National recently introduced a Web site for its licensed brokers. The page is designed to give brokers sales tools and information.
