In Brief: Third-Party Marketer Hires Putnam Exec

Funds Distributor, a Boston-based third-party marketing firm that helps banks develop and market proprietary mutual funds, has tapped a Putnam Investments executive to oversee its client relationships.

George Rio, 43, joined the firm on Monday as executive vice president, director of client services.

He will also oversee the company's legal services and its institutional services department, which provides telephone sales assistance.

The position became available when Richard Ingram announced that he will leave the firm at the end of June to pursue a broadcasting career.

At Putnam, Mr. Rio was a senior vice president in the financial institutions division.
