Tech Bytes: Net Security Group Elects Litton Executive

Open Group, a consortium of information technology companies and their customers, said it has elected retired Air Force general and Litton Industries executive Denis M. Brown as chairman of its board.

Mr. Brown, who is vice president and general manager of Air Force infrastructure programs for the Litton PRC subsidiary, has been an active member of Open Group and a predecessor organization since 1992.

The consortium said he is the only representative of a technology end- user to head an organization of this kind. His Open Group predecessors represented the sponsoring technology vendors.

Chief executive officer Joseph DeFeo said the appointment "illustrates our commitment to ensuring that our 200-plus end-user members have the highest level of representation as we move forward in the development of our IT DialTone." He was referring to a set of specifications, products, and technologies that "will provide a guaranteed level of security and reliability for electronic business applications across the Internet."

"My goal is to make IT DialTone a reality because as the Internet becomes an increasingly important business tool, trust, security, and reliability must be ensured for end-user organizations worldwide," Mr. Brown said.
