In Brief: Bank Stocks Follow Market Downward

fell Monday amid a slump in the market overall and an upward nudge in bond yields. Chase Manhattan Corp. dipped $2.6875, to $134.5625; J.P. Morgan & Co. was down $2.375, to $142.375; and Mellon Bank Corp. slipped $1.375, to $68.50. Some regional stocks managed gains as investors looked to positive earnings, takeover potential or a combination of both. Keystone Financial rose 25 cents, to $40.375; Provident Bancshares Corp. gained $1.25, to $35; and Wells Fargo & Co. jumped $6.875, to $382.
