In Brief: W.Va. Banking Firm Buys Internet Provider

City National Bank of Charleston (W.Va.) has closed a deal to acquire CityNet Corp., a Charleston-based Internet service provider. Terms of the deal were not released.

"The acquisition of CityNet further strengthens our current investment in and development of computer technology and electronic banking services," said Steven J. Day, president and chief executive officer of City Holding Co.

City Holding, with $1.4 billion of assets, is parent of 10 West Virginia banks operating 43 branches, and one California thrift. CityNet serves about 6,000 businesses and individuals, making it one of the largest Internet providers in its state.
