Short Takes: Conn.'s Webster in Deal For Insurance Agency

Webster Financial Corp., a Waterbury, Conn., banking company, said Tuesday it would buy Damman Insurance Associates, a privately owned insurance agency.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close this quarter, were not disclosed.

Damman, which is based in Westport and Wallingford, Conn., is a full- service retail agency with 50 employees. Last year it wrote $68 million in premiums, selling property and casualty, life, and group policies to consumers and businesses. The agency will operate as a subsidiary of Webster Financial. George H. Damman, its chief executive officer, will continue in that role.

Webster Financial's leading banking subsidiary, WebsterBank, has $9.8 billion of assets and operates through a network of more than 100 banking offices in Connecticut.
