In Brief: Montana Company in $12M Deal for Bank

United Financial Corp., Great Falls, Mont., has a deal to buy First State Bank of Fort Benton for $12 million in cash and stock.

The deal calls for $66 million-asset First State Bank to retain its charter and management.

"First State Bank has an outstanding management team that has produced an excellent track record of growth," said John Morrison, chairman and chief executive officer of United Financial. "This merger would continue our efforts to build and expand our banking franchise within Montana."

United Financial is the $184 million-asset holding company for two banks with 11 branches in Montana. The deal is scheduled to close in the third quarter.
