Tech Bytes: ISS to Use Certicom's Elliptic Curve Software

Internet Security Systems Inc. of Atlanta will integrate Certicom Corp.'s elliptic curve cryptography software in its intrusion detection system, Certicom has announced.

ISS will rely on elliptic curve, an increasingly popular data security method because it requires less computing power than convention RSA programs, to encrypt data within its RealSecure system.

RealSecure has been used by Internet banks and other organizations to monitor and prevent hacking and other external attacks.

"ISS is significantly enhancing its current level of data protection," said Nancy Blair, the company's vice president, product management. "We have been evaluating public key technologies for some time and Certicom's cryptography has proven to be strong and cost-effective."

Reflecting the upsurge in demand for on-line security, Internet Security Systems' parent, ISS Group Inc., recently announced an initial public stock offering.
