In Brief: Comerica Offering Package to PCClients

Comerica Inc., only 1% of whose retail customers bank with it on-line, hopes to attract more with Home ATM, a program from Home Financial Network Inc. of Westport, Conn.

Comerica's previous PC banking initiatives aimed at the mass market have attracted only 3,000 customers. In addition to offering the custom-built Access One direct banking product, Comerica has at various times allied itself with Prodigy Inc.'s on-line service, MasterCard's MasterBanking, Visa Interactive VIPC, and Electronic Data Systems Corp.'s Interactive Transaction Partners.

The $36 billion-asset banking company is counting on Home ATM's simple, ATM-like interface.

"Many who buy and use personal financial management software abandon it when it comes to PC banking, because the programs require too much time and record keeping," said Richard G. Lyons, senior vice president of electronic banking and marketplace technology.

The look and feel of Home ATM will also be duplicated on Comerica's automated teller machines. "We are trying to tie together the image and experience of all our customer delivery channels so that they experience a consistent brand," Mr. Lyons said.
