In Brief: Session Scheduled On Year-2000 Dangers

A trio of leaders from the legal, consulting, and insurance fields are to hold an interactive briefing June 5 to discuss year-2000 information technology issues.

These include Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure obligations, potential management liability, and how companies can prepare themselves.

The event is sponsored by ABD Insurance Services, Brobeck Phleger & Harrison LLP, and Coopers & Lybrand LLP.

With the millennium bearing down, companies are discovering their computer systems are ill-prepared for its arrival. Predictions of dire consequences include massive disruption of manufacturing and distribution of goods, the complete shutdown of stock markets, and failure of infrastructure systems such as transportation, power, water, communications, and banking.

Panelists are expected to include John Schwonke, vice president and manager of ABD Insurance Services Inc., a risk services consulting practice; Kathryn Dodds, partner, Coopers & Lybrand, LLP, San Francisco; and David Furbush, partner, Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, LLP, Palo Alto, Calif.
