Captial Briefs: D'Amato Planning to Seek 4th Term in Senate

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Alfonse M. D'Amato announced over the weekend that he will run for reelection.

Calling himself a champion of "the forgotten middle class," the New York Republican told a cheering crowd of supporters at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York on Sunday that he would seek a fourth term. He traveled around the state Monday to spread the news to voters.

He will face the winner of the Sept. 15 Democratic primary: either former Rep. Geraldine A. Ferraro, New York City public advocate Mark Green, or Rep. Charles E. Schumer of Brooklyn.
