In Brief: 4 Giants Forming E-Trade Lobbying Outfit

Intuit Inc., and Microsoft Corp. are forming a lobbying group to focus on electronic commerce issues. A source at one of the companies said the group will focus initially on protecting mortgage lenders' interests as the government considers legislation on electronic signatures and on-line licensing and disclosure. The group, to be called the Electronic Financial Services Council, would not restrict its membership based on companies' charters or licenses. The source said the companies are organizing into committees in such areas as insurance, securities, consumer credit, and on-line banking. -Hala Habal
