In Brief: New DataCard Systems For Midsize Issuers

DataCard Corp. has introduced a set of card personalization systems designed for mid-volume issuers.

The systems, whose main function is to emboss and encode cardholder information, will provide benefits previously available only to high-volume financial companies and service bureaus, DataCard said.

"Many card issuers were caught between solutions," said Bonnie Lervik, senior vice president of marketing for DataCard's financial company. "They didn't need the full capabilities of our top-of-the-line systems, but their needs were too big for our desktop systems."

She said the new DataCard 500 Series fills the bill for issuance of credit, debit, automated teller, and stored-value cards as well as a full range of identification cards, such as those used for loyalty and insurance membership programs.

Both models can be configured with a PC-based software controller. The DataCard 503 offers a choice of three card personalization features; the DataCard 504 offers four.

The two systems also offer a card delivery option, which allows issuers to print forms, affix cards, fold forms, and insert them into envelopes.

The systems will be delivered in February, DataCard said.
