Short Takes: National City Appoints Investments Chief

National City Corp. said Tuesday it has named James R. Kirk as chief investment officer of its private client group.

He will oversee investment strategies for more than $30 billion of assets managed in the private client group and is responsible for investment policies and guidelines used by the 300 brokers in Natcity Investments Inc.

The position is new, Mr. Kirk said. Previously, portfolios were managed independently on a regional basis without "cohesion and consistency," he said. The private client group employs 60 investment professionals.

Mr. Kirk, a senior vice president, joined the private client group from National City Investment Management Co., a registered investment adviser that manages the banking company's proprietary mutual fund families, Armada and Parkstone.
