Tech Bytes: New Payment Systems Are Focus of Workshop

The Intelligent Transportation Society of America is inviting representatives from the public and private sectors, including bankers and smart card promoters, to a payment systems workshop.

The event will take place Feb. 9-11 at the Sheraton Hotel in Reston, Va.

Presentations will be made on major initiatives in payment automation, such as highway E-ZPass programs and card-based fare collection systems in New York and Washington.

The conference coordinator is payment systems consultant Dale Reistad of Interactive Finsys International in Alexandria, Va. He will moderate a panel on issues such as operating rules and privacy; speakers will include David Temoshok of the General Services Administration and Boston lawyer Lynn Barr.

Elliott McEntee, president of the National Automated Clearing House Association, will give the keynote address Feb. 10.

Speakers from Chase Manhattan Bank, First Union National Bank, Fleet Bank, and KeyBank will follow.
