Brazilian Government Decorates Citigroup Vice Chairman

Citigroup vice chairman William R. Rhodes was honored Tuesday by the government of Brazil for his role in supporting the country over many years.

Mr. Rhodes, 63, was awarded the grand officer insignia of the National Order of the Southern Cross in a ceremony at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington.

Mr. Rhodes was chairman of the Bank Advisory Committee for Brazil from June 1983, shortly after the international debt crisis began, through closing of the final negotiations in April 1994.

During Brazil's recent economic difficulties, he coordinated efforts to encourage banks to maintain their trade and interbank credit lines to the country.

Brazil awarded Mr. Rhodes the Commander Insignia of the National Order of the Southern Cross in 1994. He has also has been decorated by the governments of Argentina, France, South Korea, and Venezuela.
