Tech Bytes: ADP Clients Wrap Up Y2K Compliance Test

Twenty-five clients of Automatic Data Processing Inc., including several large banks, successfully completed a year-2000 compliance test of ADP's direct deposit services.

Most of the 23,000 banks and credit unions in the United States use ADP for payroll processing.

The testers, which included Bank One Corp., Chase Manhattan Corp., Bank of New York Co., and ING Barings, paid $10,000 each to participate in the seven-week program.

They tested transmission of payroll data at three critical points. All were able to accurately transmit payroll, receive downloaded files, and validate paychecks in a year-2000 environment.

Thomas McCarthy, associate director at ING Barings, said, "We felt confident of our own Y2K efforts.

However, participating in this program gave us the added assurance that our partners in the payroll process were as prepared as we."
