Executive Changes: Commerce Bank Wichita

Commerce Bank Wichita has made John C. Clevenger, its president since 1997, as chief executive officer as well.

The fifth-generation banker succeeded John G. Himmel, who remains chairman of the bank, a unit of Commerce Banchares of Kansas City, Mo.

As president Mr. Clevenger has overseen the bank's commercial division and investment management group. As CEO he will also be responsible for retail banking, human resources, and marketing. Mr. Himmel will continue to oversee credit administration functions.

Mr. Clevenger first joined Commerce Bank in 1990 as a commercial lender in St. Louis. He left in 1993 to be a consultant with A.T. Kearney & Associates and returned in 1996 as executive vice president of commercial banking.
