In Brief: Wamu's Aristar Unit Files to Sell $1B of Bonds

Aristar Inc. a consumer finance company owned by Washington Mutual Inc., filed to raise as much as $1 billion from sales of debt securities.

The Tampa unit said in the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it would use the proceeds for general purposes, possibly including repaying debt, making acquisitions, and expanding its offices.
