Card Briefs: Metris Unit Buys $1.3B Of Receivables from GE

Metris Cos.'s subsidiary, Direct Merchants Credit Card Bank, has bought $1.3 billion of credit card receivables in 563,000 accounts from General Electric Co.'s GE Capital unit.

GE Capital has sold off several pieces of its consumer Visa and MasterCard business, saying it plans to concentrate on its private-label corporate and purchasing cards.

It said it will probably sell the small consumer card business still on its books.
