Card Briefs: Unit of U.K. Company Unveils Security Device

Racal Security and Payments has introduced WebSentry, a security hardware module for complying with the Secure Electronic Transaction protocol for on-line card payments.

The unit of Racal Electronics of the United Kingdom said its cryptographic technology can operate with a variety of computer operating systems and platforms including Microsoft Windows NT, Sun Solaris, and Hewlett-Packard HP-UX.

"The WebSentry module is housed in a tamper-resistant and tamper-evident case," the company said. "In addition, no plain text keys are exposed outside the tamper-resistant circuitry, and within the case is housed battery-backed, tamper-protected memory. Operation, module management, and access control are under smart card and PIN protection."
