Tech Bytes: British Telecom to Market JCP Web Software

British Telecom is entering the Internet banking arena. The United Kingdom telecommunications giant said it is teaming up with JCP Computer Services, an electronic commerce and security software firm, to market a system that it would run on behalf of financial institutions.

British Telecom will make JCP's Trustbase Banking Internet software available through such remote channels as kiosks, Web phones, and set-top television boxes.

"We believe that the market for electronic banking solutions will increasingly move toward a managed service model," said John Skipper, head of banking and payments, BT Electronic Commerce. "By investing in JCP's Trustbase, which delivers a combination of rich banking functionality, advanced security, and flexibility of branding, we hope to lead the market in this area."
