In Brief: IBAA Seeks to Join Lawsuit Against NCUA

The Independent Bankers Association of America said Tuesday that it has filed a motion seeking permission to become a co- plaintiff in the American Bankers Association's lawsuit against the National Credit Union Administration.

The lawsuit concerns the liberalization of credit union membership rules approved by the agency in December. "Congress gave credit unions an inch but they took a mile," said IBAA executive vice president Kenneth Guenther. "Unlawful competition from credit unions for both retail and commercial customers has caused and will continue to cause irreparable harm to banks and thrifts."
