Tech Bytes: Bell Canada E-Commerce Unit in Bank Pact

BCE Emergis, the electronic commerce offshoot of Bell Canada, announced a five-year contract with National Bank of Canada.

The exclusive contract, originally signed by Info-Titres Inc., which BCE Emergis acquired in April, covers back-office e-commerce services for title searches and the registration of loan securities and guarantees. The Internet-based system automates processes relating to commercial leases and loans, personal loans for moveable property (such as automobiles), and mortgage loans. It also prints loan-guarantee contracts and other forms, and sends documents to appraisers, lawyers, and notaries.

BCE Emergis president and chief executive officer Brian Edwards said the system complements others for electronic bill presentment, cash management, and other payment services. "We see the opportunity to leverage this solution in other parts of Canada and throughout the United States."
