Tech Bytes: System Offers Insurers New Link to Internet

Ivans Inc., an information technology supplier to the insurance and health care industries, has introduced a system that helps insurers to link their computer systems to Internet technology.

The system, WebDirect, is designed to handle complex transactions in a browser-based format over the Internet.

"Giving Web access to legacy data helps provide better service," said Anna England, vice president of IVANS Technology Services. With WebDirect, she said, "insurance companies will be able to strengthen customer relationships while extending product reach."

WebDirect was developed using Amazon Integrator, a product for complex technology projects from the international systems integration firm Intelligent Environments. In another example of IVANS trying to modernize the insurance infrastructure, the firm recently began a project to develop a digital-certificate security system for the industry's electronic commerce.
