Ex-Ahmanson Planner Named CFO of Old Kent Financial Corp.

Old Kent Financial Corp. in Grand Rapids, Mich., has promoted former H.F. Ahmanson & Co. executive Mark F. Furlong to chief financial officer.

At Ahmanson's Home Savings of America he was a first vice president responsible for planning, budgeting, forecasting, mergers and acquisitions, and capital planning.

Mr. Furlong joined $16 billion-asset Old Kent in March of last year as the CFO of its principal banking subsidiary, Old Kent Bank. He retains that position. He was promoted in October from senior vice president to executive vice president.

As chief financial officer of the holding company he succeeded vice chairman Robert H. Warrington, to whom he reports. Mr. Warrington had filled in as CFO since May of last year, after William L. Sanders, who had held the job since August 1997, resigned.
