Two mutual fund executives associated with Chase Manhattan Corp. have left to join Kinetics Asset Management Inc., a New York investment advisory firm.

Steven R. Samson was named president and chief executive, and Lee W. Schultheis was named managing director and chief operating officer.

Mr. Samson was hired from Chase Global Asset Management and Mutual Funds, where he was a managing director. The unit advises the $46 billion- asset Chase Vista Funds.

Mr. Schultheis was the director of business development for Vista Funds Distributor, the unit of Bisys Fund Services that underwrites and distributes the Vista Funds.

Successors to Mr. Samson and Mr. Schultheis have not been named, each company said.

Kinetics is the investment adviser to one fund, which invests in technology companies. The fund has $675 million of assets, a spokesman said.
