Short Takes: Mellon Names U.S. Manager for New Unit

Mellon Bank Corp. of Pittsburgh said Tuesday that it had hired Steven H. Reiff as senior vice president and national manager of its new wealth management services group.

Mr. Reiff joined Mellon's Pittsburgh office in May from Chicago-based Bank One Corp., where he was a managing partner in its Investor Advisors' wealth management business.

At Mellon, he will coordinate investment strategies for clients with more than $20 million of assets. The wealth management services group, a division of Mellon Private Asset Management, aims to provide a cohesive strategy for allocating the assets of higher-net-worth clients, he said.

Created during the first quarter, the group caters to the needs of more savvy investors who have knowledge of the capital markets and need sophisticated estate planning techniques, Mr. Reiff said.

He said he was attracted to Mellon's progressive wealth management strategies and alternative asset classes.
