In Brief: E-Wallet Maker Adopts Flexible Standard

Launchpad Technologies Inc., developer of the eWallet shopping utility, said it has incorporated the ECML standard into its system.

ECML, Electronic Commerce Modeling Language, is the standard for digital wallets released in mid-June and supported by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, America Online, Cybercash, and others.

"By enabling ECML, we provide on-line merchants with tremendous flexibility to choose any standard they like," said Launchpad chief executive officer Larry Gross. He said, "eWallet is very unique in its offering because it is able to support merchants who choose to implement ECML as well as those who do not."

Launchpad, the parent of push-technology pioneer Pointcast Inc., introduced eWallet in 1998 and currently supports more than 400 on-line merchants, which it said makes it the most widely accepted electronic wallet.
