Card Briefs: Deluxe Data Makes $2.1M Sale in Poland

Deluxe Corp.'s Deluxe Data International unit announced its first sale in Poland-a $2.1 million contract from Bank Pekao of Warsaw for Connex electronic funds transfer software.

Pekao is Poland's largest bank, with 20% of the country's banking assets and 40% of the payment card market. It will rely on Connex and an IBM S/390 enterprise server to run 550 automated teller machines and process about two million transactions per month.

The Deluxe contract will cover another 200 planned ATMs. Przemyslaw Figarski, managing director of Bank Pekao, said the software will "underpin the bank's further planned growth of ATM and point of sale devices."

The new system is part of an entirely new information technology infrastructure being installed this year and next.

Ron Drake, managing director of Deluxe Data International Ltd. in the United Kingdom, called the Bank Pekao contract "a significant milestone." With Deluxe aiming to expand in Central Europe, "this positions us well to respond to the requirements of these evolving markets."
