Smart Bits: Wash. Firm to Provide 2 S.F. Ferry Kiosks

Pathways Group Inc. said it has signed a contract to install two unattended ticketing machines for the Blue & Gold Fleet ferry service at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

The Sprinticket kiosks can handle conventional credit card authorizations and end-of-day reconcilement. But the machines can accept smart cards, and Blue & Gold Fleet is said to be considering a customer loyalty program and other enhancements.

A rechargeable smart card, for example, could eliminate the need for regular commuters to make repeat ticket purchases-and allow them to board ferries sooner.

"Our Sprinticket system continues to experience a high rate of interest and acceptance," said Carey Daly, president and chief executive officer of Pathways Group. "We are pleased to provide Blue & Gold Fleet with a proven unattended ticketing system that exceeds anything being offered in the industry today."
