In Brief: Security Specialist Now Compatible with Intel

Baltimore Technologies, a fast-growing provider of electronic-commerce security, said its cryptographic tool kits will support the random-number generator embedded in Intel Corp.'s 810 Chipset.

The random-number generator, or RNG, provides a more secure basis for encryption codes than did previous software-based methods. RSA Data Security Inc., the leader in commercial cryptography technology, previously announced RNG capabilities, stemming from a working relationship it established with Intel early this year.

With the RNG equipped with tool kits, "developers worldwide can easily integrate and enhance the security of their applications," said Michael Glancy, general manager of Intel's platform security division.

"This agreement reinforces Baltimore's relationship with Intel and follows our announcement in January to support Intel's Common Data Security Architecture in our developer tool kits," said Baltimore chief executive officer Fran Rooney. "Baltimore is committed to working closely with Intel to provide the development community with advanced standards-based tools required to build full-strength security applications."
