Short Takes: Hartford Life Hires VP for Broker Sales

Hartford Life recently named Ryan W. Johnson a vice president handling broker-dealer sales of retail investment products, a new post.

Mr. Johnson, 38, is responsible for sales of Hartford Life's annuities and mutual funds through brokerages.

He also manages Hartford Life's relationship with Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter & Co., a primary account. Morgan Stanley co-sponsors a variable annuity with the Simsbury, Conn., insurance company.

Mr. Johnson joined Hartford Life from Guardian Investor Services Corp., where he was senior vice president of equity marketing and sales. Guardian Investor Services is a unit of Guardian Insurance and Annuity Co. of New York.

Hartford Life, the leading seller of variable annuities, is mostly owned by Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., which had $151 billion of assets on March 31.
