In Brief: BancWest to Take 3Q Hit from Consolidation

Third-quarter earnings at BancWest Corp. will be dampened by a $6.9 million restructuring charge - the result of consolidating the bank's mainland data processing center into its Honolulu facility.

The consolidation is expected to pare $2.8 million in expenses this year and more than $60 million over six years, the $16.3 billion-asset bank said Tuesday.

Alltel Information Services, a unit of Alltel Corp., will manage the combined facility.

All of the 127 data processing employees at the Honolulu facility have been offered jobs with Alltel, the bank said. Next year Alltel plans to cut some jobs in the center. However, BancWest said it would create other jobs as more mainland operational facilities are moved to Hawaii.
