Card Briefs: Hypercom Names Chief At North America Unit

Hypercom Corp. said it has promoted John Marshall to senior vice president and general manager of Hypercom North America POS.

Mr. Marshall, who has worked 12 years for the point of sale terminal supplier, has direct responsibility for sales, service, and support throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

He was senior vice president of sales for the United States and Canada, and he now reports to Chris Alexander, president of Hypercom Worldwide Payment Solutions. Recently formed in a reorganization, the unit is responsible for all payment product sales and support, including Hypercom's POS multilane division and the Horizon Group.

Succeeding Mr. Marshall as senior vice president of U.S. and Canadian sales was George Devitt, who came to Hypercom last year from its competitor, Verifone Inc.

"Hypercom's shipments soared by almost 45% in the U.S. last year, in large part due to John Marshall's efforts," said Mr. Alexander.

Before joining Hypercom in 1987, Mr. Marshall was vice president of sales and marketing at Ausnet and its subsidiary, Eftel, the operators of Australia's only independent electronic funds transfer network.
